urriculum Exploring Economics and The Environment
With funding from PPG Industries Foundation, EconomicsPennsylvania has developed The Economics of Alternative Energy, a curriculum designed to help students better understand the issues surrounding the energy debate in the United States from an economic perspective. The lesson plans and materials are timely, creative and thought-provoking. Designed to challenge and engage students in a discussion regarding renewable and non-renewable energy sources, these classroom activities will help stimulate discussion regarding reasonable approaches to solutions for our pressing energy issues.
The Economics of Alternative Energy explores the issues surrounding the energy debate in the United States and the world from an economic perspective. Students analyze the various sources of energy – renewable and non-renewable – and consider the choices each presents. They research recent initiatives and discussions in this area and analyze the implications for their own lives, their country and the world. As a final project, students assume the roles of pivotal stakeholders in this debate and testify to a mock congressional committee responsible for making decisions about the energy policy of the United States.
